Key West offers activities, attractions, entertainment, sun, and fun for the whole family regardless of age. From the endless shopping, restaurants, and bars that line Duval Street, to the festive sunset party at Mallory Square, to the museums and numerous resorts, beaches, and boating activities, honeymooners to this Southernmost Island can create the perfect getaway.
For us, one of the things we most love to do is try something fun and adventurous together. This was our third trip to Key West and we were eager to find a new activity that would give us a different perspective of the island. That’s when we learned of Barefoot Billy’s 27-mile guided jet ski tour!
We decided to choose Barefoot Billy’s Jet Ski Tour for their extensive experience and great reviews. Both Julie and I were excited to discover Key West from the water and see what beauty the area had to offer.
After checking in with the Barefoot crew at their Casa Marina location, we completed a short safety briefing followed by an overview of where our 27-mile tour would lead us. Joining us on our adventure was Julie’s brother, Matthew. We each had our own jet ski which worked out well as the conditions can get choppy in some areas and being on one jet ski could have been a little rough and uncomfortable. Julie was nervous at first to be on her own jet ski, but that seemed to quickly disappear after she opened up the throttle and felt how fun and exciting it was to bounce across the waters!
Mike, our knowledgeable tour guide, took us on a thrilling tour around Key West. We stopped at several points of interest: the famous Southernmost Point, Mallory Square, Sunset Key, and rode through Mangroves inlets and under bridges to a picturesque sand bar. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Mangroves, wildlife and skimming at high speeds along the smooth waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Jet skiing in the Atlantic side was more choppier, but fun for getting some air and playing around in the waves.
During the two hour tour, we raced along at full throttle to the different view points around the island. We all loved jetting between the waves and wake found in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Mike also allocated 20 minutes of our tour to “free-style” play in the calmer waters of the Gulf. Watch the video above to see Julie and I zooming up and down, pulling 270 degree turns and just making the most of every second on the water and surrounding area.
Throughout our tour Mike was very informative and educated us about the area, Key Wests attractions and history during our brief stops. For both of us and Julie’s brother, the Barefoot Billy’s island jet ski tour is a very safe, exhilarating and an adventurous activity which everyone should try while visiting Key West.
