Hoi An is a gorgeous historical town located just south of Da Nang, Vietnam. We took a 20 minute shuttle ride from Da Nang to Hoi An, not really knowing what to expect, but excited as we’d heard great reviews from other travelers.
The town itself was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1999. While the exterior of the buildings in the town have maintained the look of a historical era, the homes and businesses they once housed have since been converted to stores for tourism. Hundreds of tailors, souvenir shops, leather good stores, cafes, and restaurants now line the narrow streets. Each afternoon, the old town area is converted into pedestrian only from 3:00pm – 9:30pm.
The Old Town has a vibrant energy to it and we loved spending the late afternoons wandering the streets, browsing the stores, and enjoying a delicious Vietnamese dinner at one of the trendy restaurants.
