“The future comes one day at a time.” We are certainly feeling this sentiment now. It’s hard to believe it’s been eleven months since we left the comforts of our home, friends, and dependable income to take a chance on each other and the unknown, and follow our dream of traveling the world. It’s even harder to believe we are now faced with what to do going forward now that our year-long Honeymoon is nearing the 365-day mark.
While we didn’t make it entirely around the world (yet!) as we had originally planned (“Man plans, God laughs”), we did get to see an incredible amount in these eleven short months, with the opportunity to stay in several locales for extended periods of time to really get a local’s perspective. Some may argue that we could have (or should have) moved quicker to cover more ground, but for us, we now know that this is just the beginning of our journey (#alwaysbehoneymooning). There isn’t a deadline or goal waiting to be accomplished.
So the question we’re faced with now is, where do we go from here?
We have been beyond blessed with eleven months of the most incredible Honeymoon experience a couple could dream for….filled with exciting new adventures, memorable visits with friends and family, luxurious accommodations, exquisite meals, new friendships, (and so much more) that make just stopping, not an option.
Booking a ticket directly home seemed too harsh, too much of an abrupt ending. To wake up one morning basking in the glow of our Honeymoon, and then board a flight to end up 18+ hours later, tired and jet-lagged in a cold, stark reality in Ohio seemed too drastic. There must be another way, I thought….
…and that’s how we found ourselves booked on a 21-day Trans-Atlantic cruise!
Yep, that’s right, the Honeymoon continues!
We will be slowly sailing back to America aboard Holland America‘s MS Nieuw Amsterdam, departing from Barcelona, Spain and arriving stateside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We are super excited for this grand adventure. While I’ve been on several cruises before, this will be my first Trans-Atlantic and longest cruise adventure. It will be Brenden’s first cruise experience. We are giddy with excitement for 21 days at sea. Here’s a peek at our itinerary:
We have only two more nights in Bangkok (Noooo!!!!! We love this place!) before we fly to Barcelona, where our cruise departs. We’ll then have three days in Barcelona to explore, before setting sail next Monday.
We intend to blog about our Honeymoon at Sea throughout our journey. We hope you’ll set sail with us on this incredible Trans-Atlantic crossing. Is there anything you want to see or know about this type of cruise or cruise line? Let us be your proxy, just send us a note in the comments below and we’ll be sure to report back.
Have you been on a cruise before? What advice do you have for first-time cruisers, long cruises or Trans-Atlantic cruises?
